2016 Axis Awards Finalists announced

With the preliminary round of judging completed at the end of last week, CAANZ have today released the finalists who will all compete to put a new Axis trophy in the cabinet.

370 entries make up the 2016 finalists from the 70 categories that have so far been judged. This year we are seeing great work coming from all types of Agencies, big and small and some new players, with the new categories of Tech Driven Creative, Product Design (Tech and Non-Tech) and Brand Experience well supported.

Interestingly, this has not come at the expense of the more traditional categories such as direct, print and outdoor, where the work is also looking good this year.

In the Craft category, The Sweet Shop tops the tally for Production Companies with 22 finalists followed by FINCH recording 14 finalists.

“The diversity of the great work that has made it through to finalist and where it has come from this year should see us with an interesting crowd at the Axis Award Gala Dinner” Paul Head, CAANZ CEO commented. “Our industry is evolving rapidly and every year see new categories and new entries that challenge those categories. This year was a case in point and the entire judging panel have done an amazing job negotiating the challenges. We congratulate everyone who made it on to this year’s finalist list and look forward to seeing the cream that rises to the top.”

As a further indicator of the changing industry at the Film and Screen judging day there were only five entries in the 30’ and under TVC category this year – which is remarkable when it used to be more like 50 entries in this category alone not so many years ago.

So Axis continues to change. Expect some interesting changes at the Gala Dinner next month. Tickets will be on sale from tomorrow for the gala dinner which will again be held at the Viaduct Events Centre – see http://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2016/caanz-axis-awards-gala-dinner-2016/auckland
